about

RS was one of the final songs added to the W,M,Y record... Ryan wrote it in his parents' kitchen between 1-2 am while house-sitting for them in '08... When it came time to track, the song proved to be difficult. A single guitar and one voice, RS was recorded with the idea of getting one complete take, which, at the time, was difficult for McMahon. After taking a many-beers-break at the pub next door, McMahon & producer Mike Rogerson were able to get it done in 3 more takes, finally settling on the 2nd of three.

lyrics

224 to Saskatoon
I might love you more than he loved you
it’s a fine day to be marooned
in a Canadian desert running out of youth
I know you’ll soon be well
but those days between might feel like hell
I know you’ve planned it out in your head
I just wish that you chose me instead
175 to Seattle
so much rain today the van needs a paddle
it’s a fine day to head into battle
with tired hearts and bodies and minds in the saddle
But now it’s coming around again
doubts crawl through my head
butterflies in the stomach ten-times-too-big for me to deal with
fortunately free
an open road from city-to-country
i just hope i make it home to you
35 to Montreal
I wonder if I ever knew at all
it’s a fine day to write a song
I’ll finish after the opening bands’ done.
